UK tax dollars at work (NOT an early April Fool’s joke)

Freedom of Information Act 2000: HM Treasury cat

Thank you for your enquiry of 19 September 2018, which we have considered under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the FOI Act).

You asked for the following information:

“1) How much money has been spent by the Treasury on keeping Gladstone the cat in each of the following years:

2016

2017

2018 (to date)

2) Which budget does that money come out of?”

The Treasury cat, Gladstone, is kept at no cost to the taxpayer. All costs are met through voluntary donations and no official records are kept. Staff members volunteer to care for Gladstone in their own time.

If you have any queries about this letter, please contact us. Please quote the reference number above in any future communications.

Yours sincerely
