The EU today removed the travel ban on the Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs. It did, however, leave the financial restrictions on Mr. Makey in place. This easing of restrictions will be reviewed in October during the annual EU review of the program.
Just so it is clear that this is a very limited show of good faith, the press release notes:
This decision does not reflect any change in the EU's policy towards Belarus. The EU maintains its policy of critical engagement with Belarus, including its policy of sanctions, with a view to furthering the respect for human rights, the rule of law and democratic principles in Belarus.
